The LSM-V50, a new-generation polariscope, was launched in 2026.
Residual stress can develop inside glass and plastic products during manufacturing processes such as heating and forming, and may remain as strain. Because strain can affect optical performance and mechanical strength, checking its condition is important in manufacturing.
The LSM-V50 is a visual polariscope developed by reviewing the light source, structure, and installation flexibility based on feedback from users of the previous LSM-4401LE model, including requests for “better visibility,” “easier inspection of long or heavy samples,” and “a lighter, easier-to-move unit.”
■ Key Development Points of the LSM-V50
The previous model was primarily designed for vertical use, which could limit sample positioning depending on size and shape. The unit also weighed approximately 12 kg, making relocation another practical challenge.
With the LSM-V50, we improved not only visibility but also day-to-day handling and flexibility on the production floor.
- New Light Source for a Brighter, More Uniform Viewing Area
We redesigned the light-source structure and adopted a new approach. This significantly reduces brightness unevenness across the viewing area – a challenge with the previous model – making strain boundaries and color changes easier to see clearly.
- Brightness Improvement: Approximately twice as bright as the previous model (LSM-4401LE)
- Brightness Uniformity: Difference between the center and edges improved from 19% to 9% (less than half)
- Slimmer Design: Light-source section height reduced from approx. 90 mm to approx. 50 mm for a cleaner, more compact structure
- Flexible Layout for Long and Large Samples
The standard sample height range is 53-288 mm. With the optional extended column, the range can be increased to 400-638 mm. Column extension, which previously required a custom configuration, can now be implemented more easily.
In addition to normal vertical use, the LSM-V50 can also be operated horizontally. This provides greater flexibility for long or heavy samples that were difficult to observe with the conventional setup, allowing users to choose the installation method that best fits the inspection line or workbench.
- Retardation Standard Included for Immediate Comparative Evaluation
The LSM-V50 comes standard with a retardation standard for calibration and comparative evaluation. It provides reference levels of 0, 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, and 150 nm, and can be used for routine condition checks and comparison during inspections.
- Weight Reduced by Half: Approx. 12 kg to Approx. 6 kg
The previous LSM-4401LE weighed approximately 12 kg, while the LSM-V50 has been reduced to approximately 6 kg. This helps reduce the everyday burden of moving the unit between inspection locations or around a workbench.
Its portability and ease of relocation are also key advantages of the LSM-V50.
